About Us
From Amish Roots to Adventist Faith
How two people raised Swartzentruber Amish found Adventist faith and ended up farming in Tennessee.

Who We Are
We Grew Up Without Power
My name is John Glick, and I was born into the Swartzentruber Amish. My wife, Delila, was too. We learned to plant, harvest, build, sew, and preserve food before we learned to drive. We didn't have a choice. Those were simply the ways of our community.
When we came to Seventh-day Adventism, we brought those ways with us. We had seen what the simpler life produced and we believed in it. Adventism confirmed a lot of what we already practiced.
Amish Homesteading is our attempt to share what we know. We think these skills are worth learning and this way of life is worth living.
A Journey
How We Got Here
- 1986
Roots in Medina County, Ohio
We were born into the Swartzentruber Amish community in Medina County, Ohio. No electricity, no running water, no motorized equipment. Every skill was passed down by hand.
- 2016
Questioning & Seeking
After years of study and many quiet conversations, we began to wrestle with deeper questions of faith and Scripture. This season was difficult—and necessary.
- 2017
Coming to Adventism
We were baptized into the body of Jesus Christ our Lord, and later became members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our lifestyle did not change dramatically, but our understanding of why we lived this way became anchored in Scripture.
- 2025
Amish Homesteading Founded
We moved onto a 200-acre farm, with about 20 acres tillable, in Clifton, Tennessee, and began offering programs to families who wanted to learn what we have spent a lifetime living.
What We Believe
Values That Guide Everything
Simplicity
We choose what we need and let go of what we don’t. Living simply isn’t a sacrifice. It clears the noise.
Stewardship
The land, the body, the family are gifts entrusted to us. We take that seriously in how we farm and how we live.
Community
We were not made to live alone. Programs here are a chance to work alongside others and build real connections.
Faith
Our Adventist faith shapes how we farm, what we eat, and how we spend our time. It’s the reason behind most of what we do.

The Family
Meet the Glicks
John and Delila Glick, husband and wife, operate Amish Homesteading with their eight children. They all live and work together on the farm. Together they lead programs, maintain the farm, host guests, and continue learning.
Delila leads homemaking, sewing, and canning programs. John leads farming and construction. Their daughter Lydia coordinates scheduling and guest service.
We don’t consider ourselves experts with certificates. We are practitioners who have spent decades doing these things, making mistakes, and finding what works. That’s what we teach.
